Digital Groove Things

By Steve Morgenstern

Autoscore 2.0 ($120-$250) is a unique computer program that listens to the music you make – singing, playing an instrument, humming into a comb and tissue paper, whatever – and transcribes it in musical notation. Warble a melody into the microphone and see it instantly appear on the computer screen as sheet music. Autoscore comes in Deluxe and Professional versions, each for Macintosh and Windows Machines. The $120 Deluxe version includes all the functionality you’ll probably need, including a MIDI sequencer so you can edit and orchestrate your creation. The $250 Professional package adds more sophisticated sequencer software, volume tracking, enhanced recognition, fine-tuning and direct connection to popular high-end composition programs.
